Sabretooth Tiger Man in 28mm

This Reaper figure, 02785 in the Dark Heaven Series and sculpted by Jason Wiebe, is another one from deep in the Tin Mountain. It had a miscast hand, and that was too big a hurdle for a long time.
Anyway, I made a mediocre attempt at sculpting, and hid the resulting mess behind a shield (from Otherworld). It actually works rather well, the figure gets a gladiator look that I quite like.
I’m not very happy with the result as he looks a bit too yellow, I should a chosen a more sand-coloured tone for his fur. Anyway, it is much better than an unpainted figure in the Mountain…
Paints used:
Fur – Vallejo 948 Gold Yellow, Army Painter Strong Tone wash, drybrushed 917 Beige and his mane got a further drybrush of 912 Tan Yellow.
Armour – 863 Gunmetal Grey drybrushed with 52 Silver
Sword – 52 Silver
Shield and loincloth – Citadel Foundation Mechrite Red with shadows painted with Army Painter Dark Tone wash.
Bag – 843 Cork Brown washed with Strong Tone
Leather belts – 984 Flat Brown, washed with Dark Tone and drybrushed with 912 Tan Yellow

28mm Ramshackle Barn by Renedra

This ramshackle barn in 28mm comes from Renedra. Very easy to assemble, the main house is just six pieces, and the lean-to another four. Also in the kit is two ladders, two pitch forks and a cart wheel.
A quick paint-job to get it on the table as fast as possible. It will see action in our Dead Man's Hand games, and maybe elsewhere.
My usual wood recipe – Vallejo 843 Cork Brown, washed with Army Painter Strong Wash and drybrushed with 912 Tan Yellow.

Hinges 863 Gunmetal Grey washed with Strong Tone and ropes some tan colour also washed with strong Tone.

Minotaur, squig and a monkey

A small batch of fantasy figures this time.
First a Minotaur from Games Workshop. I like this one very much, and can’t really understand what took me so long to finish it. Probably the need to green-stuff all the joints. One of those minis that has spent an awful long time in the tin montain.
Paints used:
Skin – Citadel Foundation Tallarn Flesh
Nose – drybrushed Vallejo 955 Flat Flesh
Hair – P3 Gun Corps Brown
Fangs, nails and horns – Vallejo 034 Bone White
Loincloth – Vallejo 879 Green Brown
Furs – Coat d’arms 224 Horse Tone Bay and insides Vallejo 912 Tan Yellow
Wood – Vallejo 843 Cork Brown drybrushed with 912 Tan Yellow after the wash.
Leather armbands – 984 Vallejo Flat Brown
Metal dishes – Vallejo 053 Chainmail Silver
Weapons – Vallejo 863 Gunmetal Grey
Everything washed with Citadel Devlan Mud
Next up is another Games Workshop figure, a squig. Rather amusing, if you don’t have to fight one, that is.
Paints used:
Skin – Vallejo 879 Green Brown
Scales – Vallejo 924 Russian Uniform WWII
Horns and claws - Vallejo 034 Bone White
Mouth – Citadel Scab Red, Vallejo 944 Old Rose and 835 Salmon Rose
Eyes – Citadel Foundation Mechrite Red
Washed with Army Painter Strong Tone wash.
Finally a small monkey from Reaper’s Familiar Pack IV. Had a mis-cast tail, so I had to fix that with green-stuff.
Paints used:
Skin – Vallejo 929 Light Brown and 989 Sky Grey washed with Army Painter Strong Tone. Vallejo 883 Silvergrey washed with Soft Tone.

28mm Russians from Baker Company finished

These are the first batch of Russians I got from the Baker Company Kickstarter. Me, Thomas and Laffe got in on this together and split one Finnish and two Russian platoons, plus some add-ons.

1st squad
2nd squad
Anyway, the first box came a while ago, and I managed to finish these 28 Russians in record time. Record time for me, that is. You’ll find a short painting tutorial here. I tried a lot of different grey-green colours on the uniforms, not just those in the tutorial.

I’m not overly enthusiastic about these figures. The details are somewhat crude, some of the faces are, well, awful. I had to green-stuff a bit; a couple of miscasts and the LMG:s had to short muzzles.
On the other hand, when you have them at arm’s length, playing a game, they do look at least OK.
So, all in all, I’m satisfied with the outcome of the Kickstarter, but I will probably not buy more Winter War figures from Baker Company. Well, maybe a pack or two if we find that we need something more when we have played Chain of Command with them.

After this I need to relax with some fantasy figures, but after that the Finns will move to the painting table.

With this speed I might be able to actually paint all these figures in a reasonable time.
